Episode 54: Mushroom Immunity Powder
Hi, I'm Rebecca from Path Forward Formulator. Welcome to our mobile edition of 3Minute Thursdays. In today's episode, we'll focus on formulating a mushroom powder for immune health. Since we already know the category we’re targeting, we’ll formulate by ingredient categories. We’ll set the primary category to "Mushrooms" and the secondary category to "Immune Health." Then we’ll look at the list our system generates.
First, we’ll choose an organic mushroom blend for immunity from our friends at Organetics and use the recommended dose of 250 mg. Then, we’ll augment that blend by adding a bit extra of specific mushrooms: organic chaga at 150 mg, organic maitake at 150 mg, organic reishi at 150 mg, and organic lion’s mane at 150 mg.
Next, we hit "Next" and choose our dosage form. We’ll select “Powder” and from the dropdown, choose “All Other.” We’ll go with one scoop per serving and 30 servings per container. While some mushroom powders have a natural earthy taste, we’ll assume we want to include a flavor and sweetener system, and we’ll choose “natural low” for both.
Then we’ll move all of our ingredients into the powder format. We might want to add an organic flow agent as well, so we’ll select Organic Nu-FLOW at 20 mg, which brings us just over 1% inclusion. Once that’s complete, our cost and bottle estimates populate, and you can tap the bottom of the screen to view them.
You can also click the three dots and select “View Fact Sheet” to review everything. Let’s go ahead and save the formula. Then we’ll view the record and export the specification sheet. This shows the full formula, including label claims and any overage or manufacturing variance adjustments.
Scrolling down to the ingredient supplier section, you’ll see that the excipient for flow is from RIBUS, and all the organic mushrooms are from Organetics, along with contact details for both companies.
And that’s a mushroom powder for immune health—formulated in under three minutes. We look forward to seeing you in our next 3Minute Thursday. Thank you.
