Episode 41: Ribus

Hi, I'm Shane from Path Forward Formulator and welcome to 3-Minute Thursday, where we demonstrate the speed and efficiency of our platform while formulating with our partners' ingredients. If you haven’t already had a demo of our platform, just click the link in the post above and we’ll show you what it’s all about. This week, we thought we’d explore our excipient generator. We’ve partnered with RIBUS to fine-tune our clean label excipient generator to support their materials. As you're setting up to formulate, you’ll see the excipient generator option at the bottom of the screen—it's completely optional. You can choose either the clean label or organic clean label versions. To use it, just select the base profile of your formula. In this case, I’m going with organic clean label and an herbal powder-filled capsule. If I were using A3F+ Organic Aronia Fruit Powder from Organetics, I'd enter 250 mg. When you open the fact sheet, you’ll see that the platform has automatically generated a compatible blend of organic clean label RIBUS materials. One of the helpful things you can do while building the formula is head to the Metrics tab to review weight estimations. At the moment, it shows approximately 350 mg of actives and about 31 mg of excipients. Now let’s duplicate that same formula into a tablet. You'll notice we have the same excipient generator options for tablets. This time, if we choose clean label by RIBUS in an herbal base, the system generates a slightly different blend of RIBUS materials specific to tablets—and you'll see the excipient weight is different too. Again, using the excipient generator is optional. You can clear it and manually enter the excipients instead. For example, if I wanted to include Nu-BIND®, I’d check the usage range provided and input 10 mg. I might also add Nu-MAG® at 8 mg. Based on your formulation experience, you're free to adjust these values. Looking at the fact sheet, the system correctly recognizes these as excipients and lists them in descending order under the “Other Ingredients” section. So, really, there are two ways to use RIBUS excipients in our platform: you can let the system decide the ratios and inclusion rates by simply selecting the type and base profile, or you can manually input the excipients yourself. All RIBUS excipients are pre-programmed into the system and can be found via search and added in whatever amounts you prefer. You also have control over how these ingredients appear on your labels. This is all configured in the ingredient record. Let’s take Organic Nu-BIND® as an example—I've spelled it out in full, but you can change it to match the naming conventions used within your own organization. And that’s it: quick, easy, and efficient formulation with RIBUS clean label excipients using Path Forward Formulator. Thank you, and we look forward to seeing you next time on 3-Minute Thursday.
